Abbey is a designer from San Francisco who currently resides in Amsterdam. In July 2017, she graduated with a BFA from the DesignLAB department from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, after majoring for three years in Fine Arts at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Intrigued by the natural world and the public spaces that surround us, Abbey explores the gray area between the delicate synthesis of nature and our manmade environments. Trees, machines, scaffoldings, buildings…she creates living interventions that switch, swap, and substitute.

She combines her interests in architecture, landscape and biological phenomena. She creates balancing acts to illustrate the design and production of materials, structures, and systems that are modeled on biological, entities and processes, more specifically; to heighten awareness of the natural scientific processes that are simultaneously occurring around you, in you, and in all the matter touching you.
